Microsoft Introduces MAP 6.5

The latest version of the Microsoft Assessment and Planning toolkit helps you plan for OS, browser, and cloud upgrades.

In a recent TechNet blog post, Microsoft IT Pro evangelist John Weston announced the availability of the Microsoft Assessment and Planning (MAP) Toolkit Version 6.5 for download, claiming that it will make “the journey to the cloud…smoother than ever.”  In the post, Weston describes several of the new features in the 6.5 version:

Microsoft Private Cloud Fast Track Onboarding

This provides greater flexibility in private cloud migration planning by allowing users to customize configurations and shared resources, so they can target consolidation of physical and virtual workloads.

    Heterogeneous Server Environment Inventory

You can adopt or expand a multiplatform VM infrastructure using MAP’s heterogeneous server environment inventory, which supports VMware server, vSphere, and vCenter.  This feature also includes the ability to discover Oracle instances on Itanium-based servers running HP-UX.

    Database Consolidation Appliance

The Database Consolidation Appliance’s fully elastic database infrastructure enables you to consolidate thousands of SQL Server instances into a single appliance, which delivers big savings in operational costs.  MAP 6.5 makes it easier to perform consolidation planning for the migration of SQL Server to the appliance.

    Software Usage Tracking

Customers with Enterprise Agreements will find the enhanced Software Usage Tracking capabilities of MAP 6.5 especially useful.  Accurate software license management and compliance tracking is key, especially if you’re in a highly regulated or monitored industry.  Software Usage Tracking reports on usage of Windows Server, SharePoint Server, System Center Configuration Manager, Exchange Server, SQL Server, Forefront Endpoint Protection, and more.

Assess Readiness for Windows 7, Internet Explorer 9, and Office 365

Assessment features in MAP 6.5 make it easy to identify those devices within your organization that are ready for migration to key software platforms such as Windows 7, Internet Explorer 9, and the new online Office 365.

Moving On-Premise Applications and Workloads to the Cloud

MAP 6.5 Azure Migration features also provide in-depth analysis of your on-premise applications, assessing their suitability for migration to the Windows Azure cloud platform.

Run out and download MAP 6.5 today and let us know your impressions!
