Microsoft Releases Online Service Migration Tools
Following its announcement of over 30 new features in their online suite of services, Microsoft has just released a set of Microsoft Online Services Migration Tools in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions.
The primary purpose of the Migration Tools is to copy mail from existing on-premises Exchange Servers to Exchange Online mailboxes. The tools can also copy other content from Exchange Servers as well as mail from Post-Office Protocol (POP3) and Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP4) servers.
The Microsoft Online Service Migration Tools require Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2, Windows Vista Enterprise, Windows Vista Service Pack 1, Windows Vista Ultimate, Windows XP Professional Edition, or Windows XP Service Pack 3.
Previously, Microsofts migration methods and tools were listed in an Outlook help article titled Exchange Hybrid Development and Migration with Office 365. The migration list includes Move requests with the Mailbox Replication Service (MRS), Cutover Exchange migration, Staged Exchange migration, IMAP e-mail migration, and third-party solutions from providers which include Binary Tree, BitTitan, Cemaphore, Quest and Metalogix.
Focused on enterprise users, in addition to migration methods and tools, the article takes administrators through the terminology, deployment options, variables to be considered, the Microsoft Online Services Directory Synchronization Tool, and Mail Routing.
Microsoft emphasizes that this product is intended for use with Microsoft Online Services only.
