Windows 7 Migration

Would Windows 7 Migration Be Easier if it Started in the Cloud?

Is virtual desktop technology a viable approach to OS migration?

You’ve heard of SaaS (software as a service), but what about DaaS? That’s short for “desktop as a service,” and it refers to a cloud-based operating-system hosting—a potentially revolutionary solution for Windows 7 migration.

Desktone touts itself as “the industry’s only cloud-hosted VDI,” meaning it offers a virtual desktop infrastructure for organizations looking to migrate to Windows 7 without the usual costs and hassles of maintaining a local VDI.

MSPmentor spoke with Desktone VP of Marketing and Product Management David Grant, who noted that one major advantage to this approach is security: Desktone’s multi-tenant architecture effectively gives each customer their own network, so “security is not a concern for them.”

Here’s an excerpt from the article:

In theory, VDI solution providers like Desktone can pull all of the information stored on desktops and put it on servers to stream the information to users. That means all of the data is centrally managed and customers don’t have to worry about the cost of building servers and data centers and having storage and server experts on staff.

Desktone’s DaaS solution is currently available to three different types of partners: managed service providers (MSPs), cloud system integrators (CSIs), and large telecom companies.

What do you think of a VDI-powered Windows 7 deployment? Would it work for your organization? Or do you prefer to stick with more traditional methods, even if they end up costing more?
