Application compatibility is always a concern when you're migrating to a new OS. And let's face it, Vista posed or created quite a few compatibility headaches when it launched back in '07.
Needless to say, any IT pro worth his or her salt will want to investigate app compatibility before making the move to Windows 7.
Microsoft just made this a lot easier by releasing the Windows 7 Application Compatibility List for IT Professionals, an Excel spreadsheet with compatibility info for more than 5,500 programs.
Specifically, for each app it shows major/minor version numbers, company name, URL, compatibility status for both 32- and 64-bit versions of Windows 7, and the date the statuses were updated. The list is free and available for download now.
Of course, if you discover an app or two that's not compatible or hasn't made the list, fear not: There are many ways to work around the issue. Most of them involve virtualization solutions like Windows 7's XP Mode. These posts will tell you more.
