Visual Effects.jpgYes, the mouse shadow--a visual effect you probably didn't even know was there and can barely see with the naked eye. Crazy, right? As the Virtualize My Desktop blog points out, an effect as seemingly small as the mouse shadow can have a big impact on virtual-desktop bandwidth. That's because it "isn't just a shadow, it is a blending with the image on the screen." Thus, the smart move is to disable it. Here's how:
    1. Click Start, type performance, and then click Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows.
    2. In the Visual Effects tab, scroll down to Show shadows under mouse pointer and deselect it.
    3. While you're here, disable other visual effects the user can (and should, on a virtualized desktop) live without. Anything with animations or shadows is fair game.
Just one problem: this method is per-user. What you need is a group policy, a way to implement the changes globally. Alas, Microsoft doesn't provide policies for these items, but the post author gives you a pair of Registry keys you can use to create a user-based GPO. Sweet!
