Vista Business Penetration Higher Than XP's Was at the Same Time After Release

Microsoft revealed that Vista was adopted by more businesses in that two-year timeframe than XP was in its first two years. Not a ton more, but that certainly flies in the face of nonstop "Vista was a failure" assertions.

    It's been a little over two years since Vista arrived to almost universal criticism. Since then, a few key events have transpired. First, Microsoft released a service pack that corrected a lot of the operating system's problems (followed very recently by a second service pack). Second, users began to recognize that while Vista was a poor performer on older, single-core PCs with limited RAM, it ran quite speedily on newer systems. Finally, Microsoft revealed that Vista was adopted by more businesses in that two-year timeframe than XP was in its first two years. Not a ton more, but that certainly flies in the face of nonstop "Vista was a failure" assertions. That interesting bit of news came from Tami Reller, corporate vice-president and CFO for Microsoft's Windows Business division.
    "We also have a number of enterprises that are mid-cycle, that are doing a tremendous amount of testing, planning and training, and getting ready for Vista. That will clearly accrue to what they do with Vista and/or Windows 7," Reller said. "That will accelerate Windows 7 adoption."
