With that in mind, ZDNet commentator Chuck Brown offers eight steps toward making Windows 7 migration a more positive experience. Here's an excerpt from step one:
    1. Identification Determine the operating system currently on each machine in the enterprise. The most efficient way is to install an agent on the endpoints and have them automatically identify and report back the entire hardware and software inventory. Otherwise, a free online app can evaluate each machine, one at a time.
Brown delivers some good high-level instruction, but it would be nice if he provided actual examples of the solutions he mentions, like the "free online app for evaluating each machine" and "free cost estimator application." (I suspect the guy's not familiar with links, because the story doesn't have a single one.) If you've been through a migration yourself, what advice can you offer that will "ease the pain" for others? Share it in the comments. Follow ITMigrationZone on Twitter Facebook friend badge.png
