The combination of Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 promises to be a potent one for enterprises, in part thanks to new features like DirectAccess. Over at ZDNet Asia, there's a brief but informative overview of what DirectAccess does, how it works, and why end users and IT administrators alike will likely flip over it. Here's an excerpt:
DirectAccess allows an employee to access Windows Server 2008 R2 resources from anywhere as if she was sitting in an office within the corporate environment. Removing VPN from the equation does several things, but the main thing is it eases the connection. For instance, remote users don't need anything additional loaded on their computers (or plunked down in their offices) to access the expense spreadsheet just changed by Accounting.
