Most businesses these days have mobile workforces, and many of those workforces rely on wireless modems to stay connected while on the move. The technology's great, but there's one problem: It's expensive.
Indeed, nearly every USB or PC Card modem you deploy requires another service contract with a wireless provider, usually to the tune of $60/month.
Good news for cash-strapped organizations: There's finally another option. Virgin Mobile's Broadband2Go (which leverages the Spring 3G network) is a contract-free, pay-as-you-go mobile broadband service. Check out the rates:
So instead of paying a mandatory $60 per month per user, you might end up paying $10 or $20 per user, and only for those months when they actually require service. Needless to say, the savings could be considerable.
Over at TechRepublic, systems admin Michael Kassner takes a closer look at the Broadband2Go option--and likes what he sees. It may not be perfect for every organization, but it's definitely worth a look.
