The (Happy) Truth About Vista's Security Features

It's reassuring to hear Steve Gibson of the Gibson Research Corporation speak so highly of Windows Vista's security capabilities.

"Bottom line: I am very impressed with what Vista...is." Okay, so it's grammatically iffy, but it is reassuring to hear Steve Gibson of the Gibson Research Corporation speak so highly of Windows Vista's security capabilities. In the above video interview conducted by renowned tech journalist Leo Laporte, Gibson runs down each of Vista' security features, from BitLocker to Windows Defender, and darn near gushes about each one. Curiously, Gibson insists that Windows Defender provides virus protection when it's clearly only an anti-spyware tool (Microsoft's own Windows Defender promo page says as much), but otherwise it's an informative overview of Vista security. Make sure to watch through to the end, where Gibson extols the "radically more secure" virtues of 64-bit Vista. (Who knew?) Amusingly, both Laporte and Gibson heap praise on Vista's now-reviled User Account Control, indicating this was recorded right around Vista's launch. Whoops! Even so, this is required viewing for anyone still wondering if Vista is worth the upgrade.
